IF YOU ARE FEELING SUICIDAL OR NEED TO TALK CALL THE NATIONAL LIFELINE
Okay, screaming and anguish notwithstanding, I have a Fair to organize as well as the Walls Of Love Exhibition. This first, in-every-way, Fair, will take place on September 25th, 2010 in Manhattan and the exhibition, on November 3rd, 2010 also in Manhattan. For the exhibition we need free gallery space and storage, pictures of lost loves ones to suicide, messages, drawings, posters or even just names, anything that will help give suicide a face. AND not only suicide, but depression and mental illness in general. So if you suffer or have suffered from depression, if you have attempted suicide, or thought about it, please, I want to hear from you too! Our minds too need to be given a voice and a face, for people to take notice!
Anyway, going back to organizing, if you know anything about these things, they don’t organize themselves. But, and it is a big and grateful but, so many of you have generously come forward and because of you the Fair is taking shape and coming along.
My dream of it being an event without borders is a reality, for a number of
“Get Your Wellness On” volunteers are all over the States and beyond.
You see, the Internet is the thing. I am finally convinced that there are some benefits to this twentieth century technological development. Mind you, I don’t go in for all the rest of the connectivity crap that has flooded our lives. Checking your emails at home is one thing, walking around and constantly playing with your iPhone is like constantly sucking on your mother’s breast, or milk bottle, don’t you think?
Anyway, what I wanted to say is that it is not too late to sign up to help, in fact I would LOVE you to sign up to help. And helping could be as simple and easy as emailing this blog’s link to your family and friends, become a fan of “Get Your Wellness On” on Facebook and invite your friends to become fans. You can also tweet about us, and forget what I said a moment ago about connectivity, you can text about us, just this once okay?
Look, what I am saying is: help us spread the word any which way you can. Email your local paper and tell them about this important and innovative initiative. Email your local Representative, you Senators. Find out who their health legislative staffers are, and email them.
And how about starting a petition to be given air time on Larry King Live, or the Today show or Oprah, or ALL of them?
That’s what a movement is, we think out of-the-box, we get going and we keep going.
To all of you who have been kind enough to take the time to leave a comment over the last few months, I will email you a standard letter and our mission statement which you can use for the purpose I mention above, as well as to solicit if you want and are able to do that.
So I’ll be off and get cracking on all the writing I have to do. Meanwhile, is there anyone out there willing to start a petition asking to be heard? What goal should we set ourselves? A million signatures?
Please come forward, I don’t know how to set it up on-line.
